Arjun Shetty: From Coding Enthusiast to VR Innovator with Zoe Immersive
Meet Arjun Shetty, a Zoe Immersive intern and high school sophomore with a passion for coding, creativity, and learning. With diverse hobbies like golfing, skiing, and playing piano, Arjun’s journey into VR development reflects his curiosity and dedication.
To every problem, there’s a solution. Feedback is an opportunity to improve.
Finding His Path to VR Innovation
Arjun’s introduction to Zoe Immersive came through his dad, and he was immediately drawn to the company's vision for enhancing education through VR. "I was looking for an opportunity to gain experience in game design," Arjun recalls. "Zoe’s mission to create educational VR experiences inspired me to join."
Working with Zoe Immersive provided Arjun with hands-on experience designing VR content. He credits the support from Zoe team members like Emilie, Syl, and Maria for helping him improve and gain confidence. "Their feedback and examples were key to my success," he says.
Developing a Language Learning Prototype
During his internship, Arjun designed a language learning prototype that combined interactive elements with immersive gameplay. Inspired by games like Dimension and a maze game he previously developed, his project included:
- Word Matching: Aligning Spanish words with their English translations.
- Sentence Sorting: Structuring Spanish sentences correctly.
- Maze Navigation: Following Spanish-language instructions to complete a maze challenge.
This innovative concept combined visual engagement with hands-on learning, offering a fresh take on language education.
Skills Gained and Challenges Overcome
Throughout his time with Zoe, Arjun developed both technical and soft skills, including:
- Unity Development: Learning to build immersive VR experiences using industry-standard software.
- Tutorial Design: Creating clear instructional videos to guide users through his prototype.
- Project Management: Staying organized and effectively communicating updates with his team.
Like any developer, Arjun faced technical challenges. From troubleshooting VR headset connectivity issues to dealing with Unity crashes, he tackled problems with patience and persistence. "Restarting the headset, relaunching software, and even recognizing hardware limitations — these hurdles taught me resilience," he reflects.
Using VR to create a 360° immersive experience helps users engage with content in a way that makes learning fun and memorable.
Looking to the Future
With a passion for computer science, Arjun plans to pursue engineering as his specialization. "I'm hoping to gain more internship experiences like Zoe to expand my skills," he shares. As for his next project, Arjun is exploring ideas for a rhythm-based game inspired by Beat Saber that combines various creative concepts for a fun, family-friendly experience.
"Being bad at something is the best way to get better at it."
Arjun’s journey exemplifies how persistence, curiosity, and creative thinking can lead to remarkable achievements. His experience at Zoe Immersive is just the beginning of an exciting future in tech and education innovation.
